Canada's 150th Birthday
Canada Day is one of my favourite holidays. For me, it serves as a great reminder of how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful country. As someone who is about to welcome my first child into the world - I have to say, I even get a bit choked up at the thought, especially with what is happening just south of the border. The fact that the date falls during a time of the year where we can finally put our winter coats and boots into storage, take out our golf clubs and enjoy the great outdoors - doesn’t hurt.
Whether you are a long-time local like me - born and raised in Meaford and now building my own family in Thornbury - new to town, or just happen to be visiting the area this Canada Day Long Weekend - I wanted to help you out by putting together a list of awesome activities and events taking place around the Georgian Triangle. Fingers crossed for blue skies and warm temps! Dive in:

Other Awesome Things To Do
Hike/Run/Bike The Georgian Trail
The Georgian Trail starts at Meaford's beautiful Harbour and runs 34km along Highway 26 to Harbourview Park in Collingwood. Take in the gorgeous waterfront and enjoy the benefits of being in nature.
Kayak the Beaver River
When: 9-5pm, 5 days a week
Where: Free Spirit Tours, Heathcote
Why not explore the winding Beaver River by kayak or canoe with Free Spirit Tours this Canada Day? What better way to appreciate this beautiful country we live in then soaking up some rays and appreciating the nature's bounty. Never kayaked before? Don't fret - this excursion is suitable for kids and beginners. Want an extra challenge? Do it by paddleboard! Pack some bug spray, sunscreen and I suggest bringing a snack and some hydration or even pack a little picnic to enjoy along the quiet lazy banks of this beautiful, meandering river.
Paddle Board Georgian Bay
When: Hours Vary
Where: Multiple Locations
There are several places that offer paddleboard rentals in the area and it is a wonderful way to spend a few hours. If you have your own, even better - I suggest starting at the Thornbury Pier and making your way toward Craigleith. If the sun hits the water right, the colours of Georgian Bay will be an incredible blue-green sparkling beauty. For beginners - make sure it's a calm day on the Bay.
Take a “Spirited” tour of the region
When: Hours Vary
Where: Multiple Locations
Check out one or all of the awesome microbreweries, cideries or wineries. To name a few… Coffin Ridge, Sidelaunch, Northwinds, Georgian Hills, Thornbury Cidery, Beaver Valley Cidery… Designate a dd and tour about the region lead by spirits! This is a great idea if you have guests coming up. Their placement will allow you to show off some of the awesome scenery, tastes and feel of the area.
Have a night on the town
Check out one of the region’s awesome restaurants: but be sure to make reservations. For those of you visiting or new to the region, you may not be aware that the Georgian Triangle is swiftly becoming known as a premier culinary destination. With access to bountiful harvests of local, fresh foods we are seeing a trend in renowned chef's migrating to the area - and we are not complaining. Don't take our word for it - put on a pair of loose fitting slacks, sit back and enjoy.
Here is a suggestion per town:
Meaford: Andrew’s Roots Restaurant (right across from the Meaford Hall, so check out what's on)
Collingwood: Bent Taco
Off the beaten trail: Ted’s Range House Diner
